In any marketing campaign, it is important to constantly track and test your results. By doing so, you can leverage on your marketing dollars and maximise your profits.

A couple of weeks ago, Google released a new tool called Google Analytics. This amazing (and free) tool allows you to track the performance of any website that you have by simply placing a few lines of code on your pages.

I have used a few paid ad tracking solutions before but Google Analytics is so comprehensive that it even beats a lot of those commercial solutions out there. If you own a website, you might want to check it out. Unfortunately, they are not accepting new signups at the moment due to the high demand.

What’s in it for Google to provide this service free? By collecting all these data, it is going to gain a huge advantage over all it’s competitors. Information is power and one can only guess what they are going to do with all these data.

Every decent website should have a sitemap. This serves as an interface for users to search and navigate your site. More importantly, it allows for search engines to find and index your pages easily.

Unfortunately, creating and maintaining a sitemap is a tedious process. This is another task that is best automated. Fortunately, I found a service that will generate a sitemap for you automatically. Just get the engine to index your page whenever you make any changes and you will have an updated sitemap. You can have a look at how my sitemap looks like.

The next thing is that google has recently released a new service called google sitemaps. This allows us to tell their crawlers what pages to index and also their importance. While using this does not guarantee high search engine rankings, the fact that google has taken time to develop and release this tool means that we should really be using it. These third party sites will allow you to generate an xml compliant google sitemap automatically.
