Red Packet Marketing

Gong Xi Fa Cai.

A few days ago, billions of Chinese worldwide started celebrating Chinese New Year, the first day of the year based on the lunar calender.

This is the time of the year where the majority of China will stop working, with celebrations lasting up to fifteen days.

It is also the time of the year when families and friends will visit and exchange greetings with each other.

Gifts, red packets and mandarin oranges will also be exchanged during those house visits.

Out of inspiration (or is it boredom?), I have produced my maiden video, a 2-min production called “Red Packet Marketing”.

Being my first video production, I have to admit that the voiceover, image quality and even the content is nothing fantastic! But I hope you enjoy the video and be able to learn something about our culture.

Why did I bother to spend my time producing this video when I could have easily brought across the same message using words?

The reason is that video marketing is very much in its infancy stage and it is possible to get extremely good ROI using this marketing method.

I know this stuff works because I had just watched a company pitching it’s services to me on youtube, and I had gone to it’s website to sign up for it!

So, I wanted to try out some of the things that I had learnt in the tube-traffic ebook. I didn’t have any previous video production experience at all but it took me only about an hour to film, develop the script, add the voiceover and edit this entire video.

As I get better at this, hopefully I will be able to deliver better quality videos to you in the future!

Oh, and in case you do not know, the phrase “Gong Xi Fa Cai” is a common chinese greeting phrase used during the Chinese New Year. It simply means “Congratulations and may you get wealthy”.
